Every act of community service produces a ripple effect. Help nurture our students’ capacity for compassion and humanity. Empower our students to give back to the community and develop servant leadership skills.

All our students are encouraged to participate in both local and regional community outreach projects. Humanitarian projects undertaken by our students include:

Project KAREn:

An outreach programme initiated by students in 2010, our team provided basic health and dental screening, hygiene, dental and medical education to the Hoay Khao Lip villagers of the Karen hill tribe in northern Thailand (Chiangmai). This year’s team continued the work of their seniors in April 2011, overseeing a comprehensive medical screening for 119 grateful villagers.

Camp Simba:

A joint community effort between Duke-NUS and NUS students started in 2009, the annual 3-day camp is a retreat that allows children of cancer patients to simply enjoy the joys of childhood. Camp Simba 2010 was the winner of NUS Student Achievement Award for 2010. As before, this year’s camp will be held during the June school holidays and welcomes 44 participants to the retreat, with 6 young teens returning as facilitators.
